It’s On

On August 16th, 2022, there will be a family who will sleep with a new expression of safety and comfort. That’s right, in only 76 days from today we will hand over the keys to a newly constructed home for a family in Tijuana, Mexico. I’m super stoked!

I’m ridiculously encouraged that so many people in my life got excited about this with me and put funds together to see this happen! So ridiculously encouraged! Together we raised over $13,000CAD to be able to provide for a family, a family whom my team will soon be paired up with!

This idea I had over two years ago, although its had its fair share of speed bumps - is finally happening! The Stade’s, along with possibly 3 other families we’re living life with here in Ontario, will spend 1 week in Tijuana, Mexico this August! We’ll spend 2 days building, and then a couple of days getting involved in some of the programs and activities of YWAM and our friends at the church Principe de Paz. It’ll be so fun to share that part of my heart with my family again and with these new friends!

As awesome as it is that we were able to raise so much money together, I wonder if it could be even more awesome! The fact is, we already raised more than what I originally thought we would need. And good thing, as I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but prices have gone up on EVERYTHING! The material costs for the home have gone up significantly since this adventure started. Flight prices for our family to get there have nearly doubled! Yikes! With the extra that we raised, and with some more contributions from the families who are not planning to attend, I’m excited to say we DID IT! And even have a bit extra that we can use for some add-ons to the home. Things like additional services or security features, or even school uniform vouchers for kids.

It occurs to me though, with the bit of extra we have, we’re actually not too far from being able to either build a larger home to bless a larger family, or to really build out the standard 16x20 home with a number of very important upgrades.

So here’s what I’m thinking… what if we tried to raise another $3000-$5000CAD? If we hit that, like I said, we’d either be able to bless a larger family with a larger home, or add more to the existing home. Also, since I signed up well before price increases, YWAM has agreed to not charge us the FULL amount of 2022 prices. They aren’t dipping into scholarship funds to do that, but are certainly cutting into some margins. So even if we had the extra to be able to pay the full 2022 material costs and even add some to a scholarship fund would be awesome! Additionally, as I said, the cost to get our family there has nearly doubled, so if there were some funds to help off-set some of those practical expenses those would go a long way also! And finally, as I said, we’re going to be spending a couple of extra days with YWAM and with Principe de Paz and these days have their own expenses as well.

All that to say, I want to do one more fundraising push for this adventure! I know many people have already given very generously, so I want to be sure to not come across as ungrateful or greedy! But I wonder if you’d be willing jump in on this adventure again or for the first time!

Let’s do this!!

Here’s how to give…

If you want to receive a receipt you can use for charitable giving tax purposes, you have to mail a cheque to YWAM. Details here in the GIVING section.

If you are not concerned about a receipt, you can e-Transfer funds to me and I’ll take care of putting it to work.

If you are not concerned about a receipt, but also really do want to make sure your whole gift goes towards the Home building costs, you can give online with a credit card here.

Like I said, I’m super excited about this. Check out my social pages to hear me talk more about this and to keep you in the loop on how all this is going!
